Warriors are a little different, John. Tanking, even at lower levels, requires your gear to be pretty decent, at least. The plate transition is pretty necessary for a Warrior at 40, for the same reason a Druid needs Dire Bear: the mobs start hitting exponentially harder. A Warrior is also probably more affected than any other class by gear quality. They have no real escape from a bad situation, and no way to recover health without potions. They rely on being survivable enough to kill something (or several) before it kills them, or to kill something so quickly it can't fight back. Marking up plate at lvl 40 is fine when we are talking about veteran players who have a "main" to turn to for monetary support and lots of knowledge of where gear is available, but a new player to the game will become pretty frustrated. Now, before someone says "but you don't need to instance/group at all to level up", I'll tell you that you are correct, BUT that is what some of us look forward to.

I rerolled a Warrior too recently. I did so because I wanted to reexperience the game from a totally new perspective. The whole game, every instance I could get into, as a warrior tank. I even rerolled in a new server, so I would not be able to turn to my main toon for the financial support. I work hard at keeping my professions leveled so I can have the neat lower level items at a level when I can actually use them, maybe even before I can use them. All this enjoyment gets derailed a little by greedy players. I don't buy the items from the AH either, but not because I don't need them. Its because I can't afford them, and the benefit of the item won't last that long.

That being said Razorfen Downs has a helm and chest that are top notch for tanking and DPS, you won't replace them for a while. Maraudon has great bracers, legs, and a helm. ZF has some awesome tanking weapons (which can become an awesome 2 hander, if you like) some awesome DPS weapons, and a great pair of DPS shoulders, which do great for tanking too. The shield from SM will last for a very long time. The quest reward swords from SM and RFD are also great for tanking or DPS. That loot should easily carry you through to 50 without spending too much time in the AH. If you were on my server, I'd gladly make you some gear for free.

Good luck!

Well, i say NAY to the buggers who say Nay to the buggers who play the AH like the stockmarket :)

Because I LOVE IT ! Its an ingame game to me. I love making money, and I dont need to have a ton to work with. I just exploit imperfections in the market, because its not a perfect market. People will sell things for a lot less than others are willing to buy them, and I guess there just arent too many people like may prowling around in there looking for bargains. If there would, that would quickly make the markets much fairer - which is why real stock markets dont suffer that way.

Besides, I dont sell "overpriced" "crap". The stuff I sell only sells because someone else is willing to pay that price. Who says its overpriced? Someone not willing to pay that price, thats who. Who says its the right price? Someone willing to buy it.

If I was levelling a toon, I'd make do with quest + instance gear - I wouldnt pay high prices on the AH myself either, just so some other fiend like myself can get rich! Thats the compromise you make, or course.

HELLS YES!! we must stand up and unite against these AH feinds who choose to play thier wares for our coins as though it is acceptable that simply because someone has a few thousand gold that they should be willing to pay 50g for a lvl27 "of the Wolf" item that will be outgrown in a matter of days.

I say "NAY!" to those buggers that desire to play our AH like a stock market.
There is always an element of risk to playing those markets, and I say its time to make them feel the risk. Dont buy thier overpriced crap.

While I can afford to shop off the AH on my server (I have a few days off per week, and 3 70's doing dailies per day adds up fast), I choose not to shop AH.
Prices are completely insane. It is actually cheaper to fully gear a 60 than it is a 40 or under.

I understand the whole idea of "look for bargains" and "you have over 10 grand, whats the big deal?" the big deal is that not everyone else has multiple farming 70's.

And this also completely screws casuals. People that log in for less than 10h/week will probably never see 100g, let alone drop twice that much for 3 pieces of gear.

While leveling up my new priest I threw any extra greens on the AH. I didn't bother researching, just rounded up to the nearest gold from what the AH suggested. And I know it's appreciated since they usually sold within an hour of putting on there. But I'm sure some people are buying and raising the price. Those people just need to watch out because Blizz watches for that now. There is always someone looking for a cheap gold.

One other reason for missing greens in those levels is DE fodder.
Those nicer greens are great to get too...especially if you're using an armor piece that is 8 or 10 levels old.

Just keep your eyes open for bargains on the AH, and get some runs through instances :)

Haha personally i love the high prices on the AH coz I'm making tons of gold - but anyway, dont worry, I'm sure it will all crash again sooner or later, these things do.

But buying gear on the AH for levelling? I dont see why you'd ever need to buy gear while levelling, except that is is fun. But levelling is the easiest part of the game LOL - and you can solo 1-70 if you like, just killing mobs. You dont *need* to be able to buy gear cheap while levelling, so why whine about the prices?

I love high prices for crafting mats tbh. I think we're all getting rich! Also you can just work the AH - there's always ppl who dont know the prices + charge way too little. Buy low, sell high FTW! Be a capitalist ! you will be rewarded!! Stupid point but cmon! this isnt real life ya know :)

I agree that things have gone haywire in the Auction House. I believe a big part of it is due to the fact that everyone can make so much money from dailies now that a fraction of the farmers simply do not farm anymore.

I am in the process of leveling a Mage with Jewelcrafting & Mining as my professions. I got my skill high enough to make myself something nice and saw that I needed a Moss Agate. I checked my bank and I was fresh out. So, to the Auction House I went and low and behold, they were starting at 9 gold each. WTF?

Now, since people see mats selling for so much, I think they said "Why not?" and started listing gear drops for high amounts as well. Luckily, I'm of the school of thought that I rarely if never buy gear from the AH. Gear is not a constant and is forever changing. Save your money for rare recipes of your craft or something that is going to stick with you no matter what.

It's cheaper to pay someone to run you through an instance, or perhaps you are as lucky as I am to have generous guildies who will run you through stuff. It also helps to know the gear you want. :-)

Simon - Wool has always sold for a good amount of money, usually more than silk, but yes that price is a bit much.

My warrior alt really struggled those last levels before reaching level 58. It's my first horde character and I found out that there is hardly any gear available on the auction house from level 40 on at horde side. And what's there is charged ridiculous prices. So, I kept playing wearing lvl 40-ish gear and the odd quest reward until I had access to Outlands gear. I'm glad I got that out of the way.

I'm also making good money now, putting my drops on the auction house at a reasonable price. Everything always sells within a few hours, although I'm also under the impression that I'm often selling to the same names, funding those that play the auction house. I just hope that once in a while, somebody that actually needs an item is able to get it.

I wish Blizz would reitemize Azeroth to give out green quest rewards similar to the frequency of Outlands. When I got my enhancement Shaman to Outlands at 58/59 I found I had a level 29 cloak, I was wearing a helm from SM, and most of my other gear was from the early 40s.

It would devalue the prices on the AH since quest equipment would be available to all.

Also, I believe there is a level 40 crafted set of plate that might be cheaper to get you started.

Any "of the Bear" plate on Kael'thas is a minimum of 35g each. And it is primarily due to one or two toons. Essentially all of the stuff up there is for sale by a couple of names. So obviously someone is buying up all the "underpriced" stuff and reselling it at a profit.

Now, that is not a bad idea economically. It is just a major PITA for levelling toons.

I tend to wonder how well they are doing, though, since I see the same pieces up all the time... I know *I* sure am not buying them!

The other bad thing is there doesnt seem to be enough items on the AH when you are leveling and the ones that are there are jacked up in price.

I tend to just go with item drops and the occasional 3 to 4 gold bargain I can find on the ah from time to time.

I always though give every new ALT I make 4 16 slot bags so that im not caught running back and forth selling stuff off and waisting leveling time. ( I do have a tailor though that makes them)
